If you’re looking for a wholesome group activity for a hen party or birthday party, a joyful journaling workshop could be it.

Creative workshop cornwall

Are you planning a hen weekend for a wellness-loving bride and want to add a feel-good activity to the daytime schedule? Or perhaps you’re putting on a birthday gathering and want to surprise your friend with something a little different?

If so, I’d love to be your workshop host! My guided journaling sessions work well for laidback hen parties and birthday parties because they:

✍️ Can be personalised for your bride or birthday girl/boy, with creative prompts about them, as well as friendship, gratitude and other feel-good themes.
✍️ Introduce the group to a simple-but-powerful wellbeing practice.
✍️ Encourage everyone to flex their creativity – but in a super accessible way! No experience is necessary.
✍️ Create opportunities for people to share their journal entries and get to know each other on a meaningful level
✍️ Suit all kinds of group sizes. The optimum amount is 8-14 but the sessions can be adapted for smaller or larger groups.
✍️ Require minimal equipment. Everyone will just need their own journal and pens/pencils – though I can supply these if needed.
✍️ Create a positive energy for the day ahead (they work especially well as a morning or daytime activity!)

“Hannah is a wonderful host. Her workshops create a safe and open space, allow you to check-in with your creative side and also provide space for reflection. I had a lot of fun hearing and sharing my thoughts from the journaling prompts with my friends in a setting you wouldn’t usually find yourself in with them!

We all had a fantastic time.”

— Alice, workshop participant

Workshop FAQs

  • I’ve run workshops in all sorts of places, indoors and outdoors, from living rooms and yoga studios to gardens and beaches! The suitability of the location really depends on the nature of the party, but ideally the space should be fairly quiet, dry and offer somewhere to sit and journal comfortably.

I am based in Cornwall so generally only deliver in-person workshops in this county - although I am open to travel if you're able to pay travel expenses! Get in touch and we can talk about your options.

  • Whilst I've found 8-14 people to be the optimum number of people for my usual workshop format, I’ve hosted workshops for groups as small as 4 and as large as 60! Larger groups are absolutely possibly but there will just have to be no/less sharing and discussion between journaling.

Contact me on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk to discuss your estimated group size and I’ll let you know how it could work.

  • Each participant just needs to bring their own notebook/journal and pens/pencils. I always bring spare paper and a bunch of colourful pens and pencils too, just in case.

If you'd like me to supply journals for each member of the party, I can do for an additional cost (on enquiry).

  • Nope! My workshops are suitable for complete beginners. Although if you or your team members have dabbled in journaling, or even if you’ve been journaling for a long time, I’m sure that you’ll take something new away from the sessions. All experience levels are welcome.

  • That’s completely up to you! I am not adversed to anyone drinking during the workshop - but I wouldn’t recommend the journaling as a late night boozy activity. It might sound obvious but it definitely works better as a wholesome daytime activity 😊

  • Yes, absolutely! A Love Where You Live workshop could work especially well for a housewarming party. Whatever you have in mind, just send me an email on hannah@journalforjoy.co.uk and we can discuss your options.

  • No. My background is in writing. I am Mental Health First Aid trained but if you’d like me to host a workshop with a group with specific mental health challenges or needs, a member of your team or a caregiver will need to be present.

  • This is something that I hear a lot… but the truth is, we’re all creative! Sometimes we don’t feel that way because we don’t make time for it, or we’ve been told that we’re not creative in the past and it’s a belief that’s stuck with us. My workshops are designed so that you can take part and practice playful creativity, even if you have no prior experience of creative writing or drawing. You might even surprise yourself (people often do) 🙂
